Late Autumn Happenings at Petit Jean State Park

14th Annual Petit Jean Mountain Rendezvous

After Thanksgiving, visitors to Petit Jean State Park are invited to take a step back in time to the early 1800s, at the park’s 14th Annual Mountain Rendezvous.  Beginning on Friday, November 25th at 10 am, park visitors will be able to see how people dressed and lived when much of Arkansas was a wild and unsettled wilderness, a place of French exploration and fur trade.  The rendezvous camp will be open to the public on Friday, November 25th from 10 am to 5 pm, Saturday, November 26th from 10 am to 5 pm and on Sunday, November 27th from 10 am to 3 pm.

During the rendezvous visitors can get a look at life during the 1830’s and have a chance to visit with re-enactors portraying that time period.  There will be opportunities to see how a muzzleloader rifle works, take a peek inside of a trade tent to see all that it has to offer, participate in pioneer children’s games, and touch some wild animal furs.  This event is co-hosted by the Early Arkansaw Reenactors Association (EARA).  It is free of charge and open to the public.  For more information, contact the park at (501) 727-5441 or by email at petitjean@arkansas.com.  Our website also contains a schedule of activities.  Visit us at www.petitjeanstatepark.com/things_to_do/.

Mather Lodge Renovation and Remodeling is Continuing and Looking Good

Remodeling and renovation work is continuing on Mather Lodge and its restaurant.   Blown in insulation has recently been installed, and work is progressing on the lodge’s new swimming pool.  Predicted completion of the new restaurant, lodge swimming pool and outdoor restroom facilities is predicted to take place by the spring of 2012.  In the meantime, the park’s cabins are still available to rent.  For more information, contact the park at (501) 727-5441 or by email at petitjean@arkansas.com.  Or, you may call Mather Lodge directly at (501) 727-5431, or toll free at 1-800-264-2462.

Community Christmas Event to be Held at Camp Mitchell

Since the Mather Lodge Restaurant will still be closed for remodeling this December, Petit Jean State Park will not be hosting its normal Christmas Open House, although plans are to resume hosting the event in December of 2012.  In the meantime, nearby Camp Mitchell on Petit Jean Mountain is making plans for a community Christmas event, to which the public will be invited.  The Camp Mitchell Christmas Party is planned to start at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, December 2nd, 2011 in the Kellar Dining Hall, with holiday entertainment and refreshments available.  For more information, please call Camp Mitchell at (501) 727-5451.
