A Hike Through the Ages
MAY 27, 2008:
2 pm - 3 pm
Meet at the Mather Lodge breezeway.

Meet Park Interpreter Natalie for a fairly easy ¼ mile hike to the Cedar Falls Overlook. Along the way, we will explore the history of Petit Jean State Park, from the distant past to the present day. Of course, this hike will include a look at the park’s showcase waterfall from above. Please wear sturdy shoes and bring water.

National Trails Day
JUN 7, 2008:

Help celebrate Petit Jean’s 20 miles of trails! This day will be filled with guided hikes and hiking related programs for all ages. Contact the park for a schedule. This event corresponds with American Hiking Society programs nationwide.

50th Annual Swap Meet & Auto Fair
JUN 10-14, 2008: Museum of Automobiles

This annual antique car show is co-hosted by the Mid-American Old Time Automobile Association and the Museum of Automobiles on Petit Jean Mountain. Classic and vintage vehicles from all over the region will be on display. Call the museum at (501) 727-5427 for more information.

Mountain Fishin' Derby for Kids
JUN 14, 2008: Lake Bailey or Lake Roosevelt

The derby will be open to children ages 15 and under. Families are encouraged to participate. Prizes will be awarded. This event is co-sponsored by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission and local area merchants. Contact the park for start and end times and other details.

Petit Jean Founders' Day
AUG 30, 2008:

In 1923 Petit Jean became the first state park in Arkansas thanks to the efforts of Dr. T.W. Hardison. In 1933, 75 years ago, the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) laid the foundation for the park as we know it today. Join us for activities and programs exploring the park's heritage, including the famous riddle hunt. Bring your family and let’s celebrate the founding of Petit Jean State Park and the Arkansas State Park System during this holiday weekend. Contact the park for a detailed activity schedule.

Great Arkansas Cleanup
SEP 27, 2008:

Help keep the state park clean and litter free! Join us for a few hours of litter pickup and be rewarded with a free cookout lunch. Following lunch there will be a prize giveaway sponsored by area supporters. Everyone is welcome, including scouts, church groups, families, and individuals. Groups, please call ahead so we can be prepared for you.

Senior American Special

11th Annual Mountain Rendezvous
NOV 28-30, 2008:

Enjoy a primitive mountain camp and learn some of the survival skills used by early Arkansans. Watch a variety of demonstrations including muzzleloading rifles, tomahawk throwing and more! Co-sponsored by the Early Arkansaw Reenactor Association. Contact the park for a schedule.

Christmas Open House
DEC 6, 2008: Meet at historic Mather Lodge.

See Petit Jean State Park dressed in its Christmas finery. Activities, crafts, and seasonal entertainment are planned for the afternoon at historic Mather Lodge. Rumor has it that Santa will be making an appearance to have his picture taken with the young at heart. Contact the park for a schedule and further information.

Eagle Awareness Weekend
JAN 10-11, 2009:

Kick off 2009 with this special event! Join us for two days devoted to our national symbol, the bald eagle. A variety of programs will be offered, including field trips to nearby Holla Bend National Wildlife Refuge to look for wintering bald eagles. Hikes, Hearts, and Hugs
FEB 14-15, 2009:

Enjoy historic Mather Lodge on Petit Jean Mountain and be treated to a romantic weekend. Activities for couples include guided trail hikes and fun games. The event’s highlight is a romantic “sweethearts’ candlelight dinner”. Reservations required.
